How it actually works
We pick these specific units because they react fast. Because they operate at a higher frequency, the heat cuts right through the wind and sinks deep into the skin. Inside, there are quartz glass tubes filled with halogen gas. This setup lets us pack a ton of power into a small lamp without burning out the filament. You don’t have to wait ten minutes for the unit to “warm up.” You flip the switch, and you’re toasted.
Dealing with the elements
Patios are messy. You’ve got rain, splashes, and humidity. If water hits a red-hot quartz tube, the glass cracks immediately—it’s called thermal shock, and it’s a nightmare. That’s why we use heavy-duty, IP-rated housings. We’re talking corrosion-resistant alloys and high-temp gaskets that keep the electronics bone-dry. It’s basically a weatherproof suit for your heater.
The “Gotchas” of installation
There are a couple of things that can go wrong if you aren’t careful. First, these heaters are power-hungry. If you just plug them all into one circuit, you’re going to trip your breakers the second the party starts. You’ve got to make sure your wiring and breakers can actually handle the load. Plus, shortwave heaters put out a very bright light. If you hang them too low, you’ll blind your guests or accidentally scorch the top of your outdoor furniture. We usually mount them at least 2.5 meters up. It keeps the light out of people’s eyes and spreads the heat more evenly.
