
Why your towel rail should actually feel warm
We built our infrared towel rails because we were tired of the “cold touch” problem. You know the one. You’re in a locker room or a dressing area, the air feels okay, but the second you touch that metal rail or grab your towel, it’s freezing. That’s because traditional heaters waste time trying to warm up the air first. We decided to skip that part entirely.
Heat that hits you instantly
Standard radiators are slow. They heat the air, the air rises to the ceiling, and you’re left standing in a cold spot. Our infrared units work differently. They send out energy that goes straight through the air and hits your towel or your skin directly. It’s fast. Really fast. Instead of waiting for the whole room to warm up, you get a burst of heat the moment you step in front of it. It’s the difference between waiting for a room to thaw and stepping into a beam of sunlight.
The gritty details (and the trade-offs)
To make this happen, we use high-wattage elements tucked inside quartz or ceramic sleeves. These materials can handle the intense heat without melting or cracking. We also use heavy-duty connectors because constant heating and cooling can chew through cheap wiring. We don’t want you dealing with burnt-out contacts. But here’s the thing: all that concentrated heat means the metal is going to move. When things get hot, they expand. If you bolt these units too tight to a rigid wall, the housing might warp or the mounts could snap. Give them a few millimeters of breathing room. Trust me, your walls will thank you.
Getting it installed
Whether you’re swapping out an old rail or putting these in a brand-new build, we’ve made them easy to drop in. Since they usually live in steamy, high-moisture zones, we’ve sealed the internals to keep rust and oxidation away. Just a couple of tips for the best setup: Put them on their own dedicated circuit to handle that initial power draw. And make sure nothing is blocking the path between the rail and the towel. You want that heat hitting the fabric, not the wall behind it.
