For a long time, people leaned on convection ovens. But let’s be honest: those things are clunky. They blast forced air everywhere, which is basically just a fancy way of pushing particulates around your cleanroom. Plus, heating up a giant chamber of air is a massive waste of power. That’s why we use infrared (IR) heaters. Instead of heating the air, the energy travels via electromagnetic radiation. It goes straight into the substrate. No middleman. It’s all about the efficiency. Since IR doesn’t waste time warming up the room, it hits the resins or photoresists on the wafer exactly where they need it. We’re talking about cutting warm-up times from hours down to seconds. It’s fast. Really fast. And because you aren’t fighting with combustion or air circulation, you don’t have to worry about contaminants sneaking into your workspace. If you’re chasing those “zero-emission” or “lead-free” certifications, this is pretty much the only way to go. The real-world trade-offs Now, we build these heaters to be incredibly clean. We use high-purity quartz and specialized filaments so you don’t get metallic flakes drifting onto your production line. But you do have to be careful with your thermal gradients. IR is powerful.
